SVG Optimizer FAQ

Vector design applications include extra data so you can reopen and edit files later. This includes layer names, software version tags, guide placements, nested empty groups, and coordinate numbers with 6 to 8 decimal places. Web browsers only need clean rendering instructions, so removing this extra data shrinks file sizes dramatically.
The optimizer parses the SVG XML tree, deletes comments and editor namespaces, converts complex shapes into compact path commands, rounds decimal coordinates to a practical precision, and flattens redundant container tags without altering the visual artwork.
The viewBox attribute defines the graphic's internal coordinate system and aspect ratio. Keeping the viewBox intact allows modern CSS to scale vector graphics responsively across all screen resolutions. Removing it can cause icons to clip or overflow their container boundaries.
Vector paths specify bezier curves and coordinates as numbers. A value like 45.123456 requires 9 characters, while 45.12 requires only 5. Across an illustration with hundreds of anchor points, rounding to 2 decimal places saves substantial bytes while preserving crisp geometry on high-density screens.
The Recommended preset keeps all functional IDs that define linear gradients, radial fills, clip paths, and masks. It safely cleans unused definitions while keeping active element IDs intact so colors and effects render as intended.
No. All optimization happens directly inside your web browser using client-side JavaScript. Your vector files, company logos, and icons never leave your device and are never sent to external servers.
Yes. Click the Copy SVG Code button to copy the optimized, production-ready vector markup immediately into your clipboard for inline HTML or CSS usage.
Yes. The tool generates an encoded data string formatted as data:image/svg+xml;utf8,... which you can paste directly into CSS background-image or mask-image properties without needing to host an external file.
Recommended uses lossless settings that preserve coordinate precision (2 decimals), responsive viewBox scaling, and gradient IDs. Extreme reduces precision to 1 decimal place, merges adjacent paths, and strips non-essential attributes to reach the smallest possible byte count for small icons.
