XML Beautifier & Formatter Online
Make One-Line XML Readable Again
XML logs, SOAP responses, and server configuration files often arrive flattened onto a single line without indentation. Reading nested nodes or spotting unclosed tags across thousands of continuous characters slows down development and API troubleshooting.
The editor indents and formats unorganized XML markup directly in your browser. Before applying indentation, the parser checks the document against the W3C XML 1.0 specification. If a tag is unclosed or an ampersand is missing its entity syntax, the error alert flags the exact line and column number. Once valid, you can pick 2 spaces, 4 spaces, or tabs, or switch to minify mode to compress payloads for production delivery.
If you are working with search engine sitemaps, verify URL counts and last-modified timestamps with our XML sitemap validator. When you need to extract repeating XML data into spreadsheet columns, use our XML to CSV converter to flatten records instantly.
What the Beautifier Leaves Untouched
How the parser protects sensitive XML elements, entities, and inline content during formatting.
| XML Construct | How It Is Handled |
|---|---|
| CDATA sections | Copied character for character. Special characters like < and & inside the CDATA block remain unescaped. |
| Comments & prolog declarations | Kept in place by default, including comments placed before the root element. Stripped only when Remove comments is enabled. |
| Namespaces & prefixes | All xmlns declarations and namespace prefixes (such as soap: or xs:) stay intact without reordering or removal. |
| Mixed content | Tags containing mixed text and inline elements stay on a single line to preserve inline text spacing. |
| Entity references | Standard and numeric entities such as &, <, and   remain encoded as entered. |
